So I am not a huge fan of Reddit the social forum site but I do occasionally visit. It does offer some neat experiences. One thing I look at is the colorized photos. These colorized photos are old black and white photos that people took a great deal of time to slowly color in every aspect of the image. For example I recently saw a how-to video of a colorization. It was a colorization of a Union general posing for a portrait shot. The individual slowly colored in the all of the different aspects of the general explaining his steps as he went. To do this the artist had to have an extensive knowledge of his subject. He understood how to color in the right skin tone and he even researched the background the photographer used when first taking the picture over a 100 years ago. The completed project was quite amazing and can really help people imagine what life was like over an hundred years ago.
Many people have undertaken projects like this producing thousands of re-colored images. I believe that this colorization of photographs will not only spark interest for the subject of the photograph but will help spark interest for history. For those people who do not really enjoy history that much, the colorization of photographs may help bring the past to life.
