Jane Austen

So as we all know there was what sounded like an absolutely fabulous Jane Austen Convention at Wright State. One of the first movies I remember watching as a kid was the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. As such I have always been a fan of her work and the regency era. Unfortunately circumstances prevented me from being able to attend. In consolation I ended up watching the show again plus the extras. It was interesting to hear what they did to try and remain historically accurate. For starters they weren't allowed to wear any modern day make up except what was needed to help the cameras. When choosing the furniture not only did they choose period pieces that were in fashion at the time but also tested them to see what was most comfortable and therefore more likely to be used. The effect was in my opinion worth it for the most jarring scene from the extras was the scene with cars parked in front of the main manor house. Modernity was truly out of place with everything they had done to create a historic image. Would only all historically based movies try to go to similar lengths.
