NAGPRA Case Study

At Wesleyan University, faculty is currently working on repatriating remains to Native American tribes throughout the United States. Although NAGPRA was passed in 1990, they are finely beginning this long process, due to pushes from some faculty. Unfortunately, and fortunately, beginning this takes the effort of inventorying the entire museum's collecti9on. So although it is a lot of work, it gives a high reward. According to many Native American cultures, these ancestors are finally returning to the rightful resting place and being able to continue their final spiritual journey in peace. Although it  may be a hassle to the museum, culturally it is a milestone.
