So this will be short and simple, but it's important. Apparently, Congress is considering changing the deductibility of charitable gifts on taxes. What this would mean is that it would be less profitable for major corporations and donors to give money to non-profits like museums and archives. There is currently a petition created by two Congressmen along with several leaders of non-profits, including AAM, that is circulating Congress asking to protect the deduction of charitable donations. This isn't even a glimpse of the entire story, but everything you need can be found in the links of AAM's blog here.
I would encourage all of you to read both sides of the argument and act as you see fit as this is something that effects us all as public history professionals.
