1. In the Indianapolis art institute blog
there was an entry from a curator that expanded on her feeling toward showing
art in an exhibit. This is a subject matter that very much interests me because
every time I go to an art museum it drives me crazy when I see people flashing
away at the art. I always worry about how much damage this really does cause.
The curator in this article expressed exaptation of artwork as a double edges
sward. She wants artwork to be available for the public to enjoy and learn
from. However, she realizes that every time a work of art is put on display it
is deteriorating a little bit at a time. This deterioration happens slowly over
time by temperature, humidity, and light. This will cause fading of the images.
I personally believe that art should be available to the public, but I don’t
think that flash photography should be allowed under any circumstance. If
museums regularly enforce even this small step, they may be able to better
preserve their collection.
